Now stroke patients will be treated clinical trial of grassroot stroke was successful in AIIMS


Delhi AIIMS launches Grassroots (Gravity Stent-Retriever System for Reperfusion of Large Vessel Occlusion Stroke Trial) clinical trial. This trial will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the advanced stent-retriever. The success of the grassroots trial will set new standards in stroke treatment in India. Advanced stent technology will bring a new revolution in the treatment of stroke patients.

Grassroots stroke technology is for the treatment of blood clots. With this technique, any patient who gets a blood clot can be treated. However, only its trials have started yet. Its first case in India was successful in Delhi AIIMS. According to the doctors, the patient is absolutely fine and has recovered and gone home. However, now its results will be analyzed further. This trial started on 15 August 2024 and the first patient was treated successfully. Dr. Deepti Vibha expressed confidence that the grassroots trial will provide a new direction in the treatment of stroke in India and the world.

Solution to the growing problem of stroke in India

The number of stroke patients is increasing in India, but treatment facilities are less. Grassroots trials will provide safe and effective treatment to stroke patients. More than 1.45 billion people live in India and India is facing the challenge of treating stroke. Of the estimated 3.75 lakh stroke patients every year, only 4500 receive life-saving mechanical thrombectomy treatment. Dr. Shashwat Desai said that India will have to take important steps to save people from stroke.

Dr. Shailesh Gaikwad at AIIMS said that grassroots treatment trial in interventional stroke treatment will prove to be very important for India. We are excited to evaluate the advanced next-generation stent-retriever technology.

Trial will be conducted in 16 hospitals of India

The grassroots trial is being run in 16 hospitals in India, including All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate and Medical Education and Research, Puducherry.
